Best Way To Ride A Skateboard
Article by Arisean Miller
Skateboarding has quickly become one of the fastest growing sports in recent years. Due to the creation and popularity of the X Games and the prevalence of a whole range of other extreme sports, skateboarding has become a sought after activity for people to learn. Whether as a hobby at home or as a possible future career as a pro boarder, many want to learn how to ride a skateboard. It?s not always as simple as it looks, but with enough practice and these tips, anyone should be able to pick up the basics fairly quickly.
1) Like we said, learning to skateboard isn?t the easiest hobby to pick up, so make sure there is enough time in your schedule to devote to getting the basics down. The best way to figure out if it is something worth your time and energy is to visit a local skate park. Spend a day watching other boarders, and if you feel comfortable enough talk to some and decide if it is something you?re truly interested in pursuing.
2) Once you?ve decided it?s something you?d like to learn, you?ll then need equipment. Visit any sporting goods store or skateboarding shop and have a salesperson help you. Then can show you which particular boards are best for beginnings as well as point you in the direction of all the necessary safety gear. Before you make a purchase, at least stand on the board you are considering buying. Make sure it is a comfortable fit.
3) When you get the board home or wherever you?ll be practicing, spend some time just balancing yourself on it. Get used to being on the board without falling off. Use your back foot to give yourself a slight push and as you roll forward return your footing to the center of the board.
4) Next, practice pushing yourself a few times to return to a centered starting position. Increase the force of the push as you grow more comfortable. Simply place your back foot onto the ground to stop your forward momentum.
5) Make sure to have both of your legs bent slightly at the knees while you are rolling. This will ensure a more centered and balanced stance. If you need extra help maintaining your balance, hold your hands out to your sides.
It may be slow going at first but as they say, ?Practice makes perfect?. Don?t give up and continue to work on the basics. The best approach is to have someone who is already an accomplished skateboarder to help guide you through the basics. Make sure to always wear the proper safety equipment and don?t get ahead of yourself and try dangerous tricks before you?re ready. Soon enough you?ll have what it takes.
